Here are pictures from Amsterdam. I fell absolutely in love with this city. It was absolutely stunning. There is something for everyone here trust me!! Not to mention it was just straight up cool and so different from anywhere else I have been in Europe.
The food was yummy and there are bakeries everywhere. There were also bikes EVERYWHERE. People had told me this before coming but I truly thought it was more of a bikes in the touristy areas situation as opposed to their entire population rides bikes. So. Many. Bikes. The adults would even put their babies in the front in a little seat on the handlebars. It was so cool and horrifying as they're riding around in the city. Interestingly more people die from falling in the canals drunk and drowning than people do in bike accidents there. That being said I think my friends and I all had a few close calls with nearly getting run over by the bikes! We didn't ride bikes because we chickened out but next time I would.
Some highlights of Amsterdam were a walking tour, The Heineken Experience, the coffee shops, the Van Gough Museum, the Anne Frank House and the Red Light District. The Van Gough Museum was phenomenal and everyone should go. Sadly, they didn't allow pictures. I liked the Heineken Experience but thought Guinness was a better all around! The coffee shops were cool- I hope those get brought over to America (sry mom). The Red Light District wasn't as shocking as I anticipated. I think our culture is so desensitized to scantily clad women that I barely batted an eye. It also felt a lot safer than I expected. We actually were curious about how this all worked so we learned a lot of interesting (and some depressing) facts at the Museum of Prostitution. The Anne Frank House was also interesting. I'm glad I did it but truthfully despite the assigned time slots that they're strict about it was just far too crowded for such an intended meaningful and educational experience. It was still very intense just being in the space and you could feel the emotions of everyone around you.
